Collegiate Capital acquired The Southern in mid-2026 as an addition to its Oxford student-housing portfolio. It fit a market thesis we had identified and had been successfully acting on for the past three years.
Our analysis continued after closing. There was something unique and special about this building that called for something else.
As a growing number of institutional buyers entered Oxford and began validating that same student-housing thesis, we studied where demand was forming and how our existing operating platform could give us an advantage.
Our founder lives and works in Oxford and is actively involved with the Chamber of Commerce and local economic-development community. That perspective revealed a natural bridge into experiential hospitality: an elevated, private setting where large groups could stay together for the events that bring people to Oxford.
The result is The Southern Residences - Oxford, a 12-king-bedroom luxury rental designed for football weekends, graduation, wedding guests or parties, university events, executive retreats, and family gatherings or reunions. Each bedroom has its own bath. No one gets the forgotten guest room with the old mattress or the top bunk in the kid's room.
